Dee Dee Bridgewater has for many years been one of the world's most distinguished singers, known both from theaters adwards and different band constellations. Her magnificent voice and interpretation ability adwards has thrilled a large audience all over. Album "Dear Ella" was a double Grammy winner, and she has received adwards several awards also for its efforts in theater productions. After several previous visit to Norway adwards has Dee Dee got many fans here at home, but now she comes with a program that surpasses most. To Bjørnsonhuset in Molde on 14 July she comes backed by a solid big band on the basis of leading musicians from New Orleans.
The repertoire is varied and exciting - from riveting New Orleans funk to ballads and swinging and rugged stomp-beat music. We are presented with a multimedia show featuring singing, music, pictures and text that will take the audience to a colorful and seething neighborhoods in New Orleans, Lousiana.
The big band New Orleans Jazz Orchestra adwards led by the brilliant trumpeter Irvin Mayfield and represents traditional American big band culture with elements adwards of second line-funk at its best. The band made history when it in November 2005 symbolic "reopened" New Orleans to perform Mayfields composition "All the Saints" in the Christ Church Cathedral. This concert was the first major cultural event in the city after Hurricane Katrina.
Jack DeJohnette (pictured) is one of today's most influential jazz drummers with a resume that includes collaboration adwards with greats like Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins and Keith Jarrett, in addition to its own considerable career as a band leader. With his new project Made in Chicago yesterday DeJohnette back to the roots and has assembled what is described as a dream band. Based in his hometown Chicago and the significant adwards musician organization adwards Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM), he has been joined by saxophonist / composer Roscoe adwards Mitchell, saxophonist / composer adwards Henry Threadgill, bassist Larry Gray and pianist / composer and co-founder of AACM Muhal Richard Abrams. Mitchell is perhaps adwards best known through group Art Ensemble of Chicago but also a number of albums adwards as a leader. Threadgill broke through adwards with the trio Air 70s, later forming his own bands as Sextett (sic.), Very Very Circus and latest zooid, adwards while Abrams has since his debut in 1968 released a number of albums that includes everything from solo works to music for larger ensembles. Gray in turn is an active adwards Chicago bassist including've played more Larry Coryell and Ramsey Lewis. In other words, here are some of the most distinct and epochal musicians and composers of contemporary American jazz together in a single band. Album Release comes in January adwards 2015 ECM.
